Andy joined Fulham from newly promoted Sunderland in the summer of 1999 on a free transfer under the Bosman ruling.
Andy had been offered a new deal at Sunderland, but instead chose to link up with his former Sunderland team mate Paul Bracewell at Fulham. Andy had been ever present in the Sunderland side that romped home to the Division One Championship in 1998/99, and it didn抰 take him long to bring his experienced style of defending to Fulham抯 starting eleven.
Following Chris Coleman抯 car accident in January 2001, Andy took over the mantle of Captain and skippered the Whites to 2001抯 Division One Championship, and then in Fulham抯 first season in the Premiership. During summer 2001 Melv pledged his future to the Club by extending his contract until summer 2003.
Along with Chris Coleman, Andy has been a regular part of the Welsh national team for almost a decade.
